One of the three hotels that we stayed in during our wedding was the Kayumanis Private Villa & Spa in Nusa Dua. In Kayumanis, they have these private villas with its own private pool and even the most basic villa has a separate living room and an outdoor shower. Quite romantic really, if not for some of the horrors that we found.
When we stayed there, they were spraying for bugs, which didn't bug us. But, the next morning, when we were eating in the living room, a maggot of some sort dropped from the ceiling and landed near where our breakfast was (you can get your breakfast delivered to your villa without charge, so we did that every morning).
Then while we were sitting on the couch, we saw behind the paintings hanging above the couch a corpse of a cecak! So that really did not bode well with us. Next, we got electric shocks by the light outlet that was on the floor. And, either we couldn't work the microwave or it is broken and never got fixed. To top it off, the morning we were due to check out, there was some maintenance on the water pipes and the water was cut off so we couldn't brush our teeth!
If it wasn't for the service: how the people were so courteous even when I was irate, how they sent a repairman to the villa when we told them about the microwave, how they set up our breakfast outside near the pool when we told them about the bugs dropping, how they sent up bottles and bottles of mineral water so we can brush our teeth, how when I gave them a complaint letter they emailed me straight away saying they would fix it straight away, I would've just given them a really really bad review in tripadvisor.
So enough of the ranting, another reason why I didn't give them a bad review is because of the variety of breakfast that you can order every day and the quality of it. The mini bar is free, and you can order as much breakfast as you want. So we went all out, figuring we can at least take something good out of this.
We had few different dishes, but ones that I liked was the nasi goreng with loads of shrimps and the creamy honeymoon cake. The bubur lawar (english: porridge with vegetable toppings) was just so so. But the guava juice and orange juice were refreshing.
The husband (doesn't it feel funny to start calling someone your husband after almost a decade of calling him your boyfriend, I'm still not used to it) always did have a more foreign taste, so he liked the fruit salad topped with yoghurt & mint leaves, he got the porridge with shrimp and the bread basket (which we couldn't finish, so we took two for the road, but then forgot where we put them). Most of all, he liked the omelette and the standard breakfast fare of sausages, baked beans, tomatoes and sunny side ups.
It felt so very grown-up right then, eating breakfast, I am not sure why, but it did. Maybe you can figure it out for me.
