hog's breath cafe hickory smoked prime rib

Every single person in my family has a Frequent Diner Card each. And you might want to know that we did not obtain these cards the easy way, by purchasing it for $50. We got it the proper way, the hard way, by getting those 6 validation stamps on the application form to show that each of us has eaten there 6 times. That's how much we love the food in Hog's Breath Cafe.

We got to the restaurant at about 1pm for lunch. The lunch crowd has already left by that time. So service was pretty speedy, not that service was ever slow here. I decided what I wanted pretty much before I set foot at the restaurant. Most often than not, we would order the lip-smackingly yummy hickory smoked prime rib, and this occasion was not any different. I got myself the hickory smoked prime rib, I like mine done medium, I asked for the vegetables side and curly fries. Maru, my accomplice, also ordered the hickory smoked prime rib, medium well, with salad and curly fries.

I could feel myself salivating when my steak arrived. It was everything I expected from a steak and more. The meat was juicy, tender, melting almost. Every bite I took would entice me to take another one and another one and another one..... The generous amount of the savoury, barbecuey, and slightly sweet hickory sauce probably had a lot to do with it as well though. The curly fries were as they should be, crispy and delicious. If your palate's fatigued from this savouriness, fear not, the fresh and crisp vegetable cuts through that. In short, the meal was as close to perfection as I could ever want it to be.

  2. I don't know how you like this place so much!?! My medium rare steak was rawish in the middle and disappointing. With undercooked Cajun rice, glugy garlic white wine sauce, that made for a very average meal. Serving size is generous and the ribs are excellent though. Service is excellent but a bit over the top, but you can't blame their effort.

    1. Ehm... not sure, I guess my experience has always been great. Different people have different experience, I guess. I don't usually order rare steak either, so never had a problem with the rawness of it.
