snowy ice, icy snow?

In the middle of our shopping spree, I got hungry. My sister immediately suggested we visit the snowy ice stand (or was it icy snow stand?). It served ice cream snacks, but using shaved ice instead of milk based ice cream. My experience with shaved ice had never been good. It just reminded me of boring snow cones with sickly-sweet-full-of-fake-colouring syrup on top, ones I would find in carnivals or outback service stations. She insisted that it was not the same, she said it's a finely shaved ice that melted as soon as it touched your tongue. Suffice to say, I was intrigued.

Other than the shaved ice, they also had crêpes. I ordered one with chocolate sauce & rainbow sprinkles, because I knew an ice cream wouldn't satisfy my hunger. My mum and sister ordered a crunchy nut (or was it nutty crunch?) snow ice. They had these penguins ice shaver machine, aren't they just the cutest? My sister couldn't resist posing with them for a picture.

Snack crêpe with chocolate sauce & rainbow sprinkles - $3.90
Crunchy nutty snow ice - $7.90

When my crêpe arrived, it came wrapped in paper. I expected it to be served on a plate with a fork and knife. I got over it though, these days everything is on-the-go anyway. The crêpe was quite good, we all agreed. But I am not a fan of this particular snow ice, there was just too much crushed peanuts. It was my mum's choice after all. If we ordered the mango snow ice instead, I probably would have enjoyed it much much more. I am, in general, not a fan of nuts, especially peanuts. To be fair, the ice was finely shaved and the texture was fluffier than normal ice cream. It wasn't a total loss.
